If you’re an equestrian or horse racing enthusiast and searching for some excellent land for sale, Aiken, South Carolina is a perfect place to start. Aiken is known as ‘Thoroughbred Country’ and thousands of horses train and spend winters in the area. Aiken has horse race tracks and polo grounds. The Aiken Triple Crown takes up 3 weekends in March each year.
Aiken has many beautiful, lavish old homes erected by rich Northerners who wintered there in the 1800’s. Horse racing enthusiasts will also be interested in the Elloree Trials held in Elloree, South Carolina each March. This year, for the 50th running of the event, the trials will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 24th at the Elloree Training Center. Some other South Carolina races to check out are the 80th running of the Carolina Cup, held on Saturday, March 31st. Camden, SC is another beautiful, charming, small equestrian city you’ll want to see for sure. The Camden Polo Cup and the Colonial Cup are also held in this wooded, historic town. You can even stop and take a ride at the South Carolina Equine Park.
