As Christmas is quickly approaching, it becomes difficult to find the right item to get that sportsman/woman in your family.
Here are a few suggestions for that special someone.
1. A New Gun! Few sportsmen or women will ever scoff at a new gun.
2. Game Cameras: My personal favorite is the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD. Its small frame and great cost make this the top choice. Add to this the 1 year battery life and excellent picture quality and its hard to beat.
3. Range Finder: All archers need a quality range finder, and more gun hunters need them too. The Bushnell G1500 is an excellent choice. Its capable of calculating the bullet drop for most weapon choices and has the ARC technology to help archers.
4. Book: Most outdoorsmen love reading about the outdoors when they cannot get out there. A recent publication by yours truly called “Times Well Spent: Ramblings from a Sportsman’s Life” tries to capture the essence of why we hunt. there are 21 individual stories of hunting, fishing, and general outdoors experiences. This book also won the 1st place award in Book Category in the recent South Carolina Outdoor Press Excellence in Craft competition. Inscribed personalized copies are available from the author at: [email protected] for $14.95. Its also available online at Amazon.com and Lulu.com.
5. Knife: All outdoorsmen and women need knives for their outdoor experiences. Fixed blade, folding, lock back, you name it, they are all good and all needed.
6. Magazine subscriptions: We love getting magazines in the mail. And magazines that feature our favorite animal, or activity is a must. One of the best for our area are the Sportsman magazines, both North Carolina and South Carolina have magazines devoted to their state and cover a host of opportunities for the outdoorsmen.
7. Rain Gear: One of the things we all need and seldom spend good money on is great rain gear. My personal favorite are the Frogg Toggs. While there has yet to be the perfect rain gear, this is good and reliable.
8. Custom Turkey Calls. All Turkey hunters cherish their calls, getting a hunter a custom call is a great gift. Friction calls, tube calls and trumpets all make great gifts.
While this list isn’t exhaustive, it gives a few ideas of what some dare I say most outdoorsmen and women will like. It may not be the greatest gift, but you cannot go wrong with any of these.
